SENTINEL Research Shared at UCD Immunology Conference
The SENTINEL team shared three research posters at the Irish Society for Immunology conference at University College Dublin, 20th - 21st August, highlighting our work to understand the skin’s immune response and bring patients’ perspectives into transplant research.

Learning how to preserve skin flaps
Ponsa Netcharoensirisuk and colleagues investigated how cold storage affects skin cells. Their findings will help guide further research into how skin flaps can be preserved and transported before transplantation.

Understanding the skin’s immune response
Aoife Kelly and colleagues reviewed what happens to the skin’s immune cells when its blood supply is reduced. Understanding these changes could help inform future research in reconstructive surgery and transplantation.

Bringing patients’ views to the discussion
Omar Quidwai and colleagues also shared our patient acceptability study, previously featured on this website, with the immunology community. This work continues to inform how we explain sentinel skin flaps and address patients’ questions about their appearance and everyday impact.
Led by Professor Róisín Dolan, the SENTINEL programme brings patients, clinicians and scientists together.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to these studies and helped us share this work.
