Meet our lead researchers.
Our team is composed of experts in medical research, patient advocacy, and supportive care who are passionate about improving transplant outcomes.

Prof. Roisin Dolan
Chief Investigator
Prof. Róisín Dolan is an Academic Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgeon at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin, and a Conway Fellow at University College Dublin. Building on her experience in vascularised composite allotransplantation research at the University of Oxford, she now leads the SENTINEL Trial in Ireland, investigating skin-based early detection of transplant rejection to advance outcomes in reconstructive and transplant surgery.

Prof. Adam Byrne
PI Immunology
Prof. Adam is a Professor of Respiratory Immunology at University College Dublin and a Senior Fellow at both the Conway Institute and Imperial College London. His research investigates innate immune responses in the lung, with a focus on chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Dr. Ponsawan Netcharoensirisuk
Postdoctoral Researcher
Research scientist specialising in human skin research and analysis. Contributed to translational research using sentinel skin flaps as vascularized composite allografts for real-time immunomonitoring and early detection of rejection in human organ transplantation. Focused on immune and molecular responses within donor-derived skin tissue to enhance diagnostic and improve organ transplantation.

Prof. Henk Giele
Global Lead SENTINEL Trial and Scientific Advisor
Professor Henk Giele is a consultant plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals and Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Oxford. He is the global lead and scientific advisor for the Sentinel Flap Trial, pioneering advances in sentinel skin flap monitoring and translational innovation in reconstructive surgery.
Meet our transplant team
Our team is composed of experts in medical research, patient advocacy, and supportive care who are passionate about improving transplant outcomes.

Prof. Emir Hoti
Transplant Surgeon
Prof. Hoti is a consultant surgeon specialising in liver, biliary and pancreatic conditions. He is the lead transplant surgeon for the SENTINEL trial in Ireland.

Dr. Omar Elsherif
Transplant Physician
Dr Omar Elsherif is the Clinical Lead Transplant Physician at St Vincent’s University Hospital and Clinical Lecturer at University College Dublin. Within the SENTINEL Study, he leads the transplant medicine component, focusing on integrating sentinel flap monitoring with clinical biomarkers of rejection and optimising immunosuppressive strategies to detect and prevent early graft injury.
