We are delighted to share that the Sentinel Skin Flap programme has been awarded HSE Spark Impact funding, building on our earlier Spark Seed award.
This next phase focuses on translating the sentinel skin flap concept into practical, patient-centred tools. In collaboration with the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and Mater Transformation, we will develop a digitally supported education pathway to help transplant recipients recognise early skin changes and know when to escalate concerns.
As part of this work, we will use DermaDiary, a digital photo-monitoring platform that allows patients to securely document and track changes in their skin over time. This will be complemented by SimuSkin, a tactile silicone education model designed to help patients understand what early rejection-related rashes may look and feel like in a safe, simulated setting.
We will draw on interviews with participants from the UK Sentinel study and work closely with our Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) group to refine and co-design the pathway.
